Enterprise and Operational Risk Management (EORM) is part of the Corporate Risk Management (CRM) department that forms the second line of defense at Charles Schwab. EORM enables The Charles Schwab Corporation’s (CSC) purpose and vision by governing and continually improving enterprise and operational risk programs, including effectively challenging business processes to increase understanding and awareness of enterprise and operational risks and improve related risk-based decision making.
Within EORM, the Programs, Monitoring, & Insights (PMI) Team provides program leadership for Scenario Analysis and Operational Losses and performs Operational Risk Monitoring and Insight.
This position leads the Operational Loss Scenario Analysis program. Scenario Analysis is a structured process used to identify and quantify low-likelihood, high-impact operational risk events through expert judgment, workshops, and management reviews. It serves as both a risk management tool and a capital planning input, ensuring that controls are in place to mitigate potential losses and that key stakeholders are engaged in evaluating the firm’s top operational risks.
Working with others on the team, program efforts include ensuring the program meets company risk management objectives and regulatory requirements managing engagement with program stakeholders, executing program activities, and performing oversight of the program. In addition to driving the execution of the program, this position will shape the future of the program identifying opportunities for scale & efficiency, enhanced engagement with stakeholders, and improvements to overall effectiveness.
The other facet of this role is to drive the execution of existing companywide operational risk monitoring routines and develop insights into operational risk trends. In partnership with first- and second-line partners, this individual, leveraging various sources of data and business insight will raise awareness and drive action around operational risk trends.
Additional specific elements of the role include:
- Development, maintenance, and advancement of the scenario analysis program against company and regulatory requirements and making changes where needed to drive greater effectiveness and efficiency
- Maintain relationships with scenario analysis stakeholders, across the three lines of defense, engaging to ensure the programs is well executed, requirements are understood, and risk management tools are fully leveraged
- Support the ongoing execution of the scenario analysis program ensuring appropriate planning, task completion, and documentation
- Represent the scenario analysis with key stakeholders, leadership, and testing teams
- Assemble, analyze, and present companywide operational risk trends and leading efforts to gain insight into the business activities driving the metrics
- Serve as a source of expertise and insight to internal partners on operational risk trends identified from analysis of operational risk metrics and external losses
- Conduct, as needed, the team’s role in organizing, documenting, and overseeing updates to policies/standards, ensuring adherence to policies/standards, and maintenance/coordination of documentation

We believe in the importance of in-office collaboration and fully intend for the selected candidate for this role to work on site four days per week in the specified locations.

Required Qualifications:
- Undergraduate degree required
- 7+ years of experience in risk management, governance, or similar role
- Expertise in risk management and governance principles, methodologies, and tools in a brokerage or bank environment
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with demonstrated ability in communicating with upper levels of management
- Ability to understand, structure, and articulate complex, interconnected risks, ensuring clarity and actionable insight for stakeholders across the organization.
- Team mentality with the ability to work both collaboratively and independently
- Independent judgment with strong analytical and risk assessment skills
- Ability to think strategically and holistically across the Firm and risk verticals
- Strong interpersonal skills / ability to forge strong relationships with a variety of stakeholders
- Self-motivated, able to bring projects and reporting to conclusion
