The Sarbanes-Oxley Compliance Office (SCO) helps Schwab evaluate key business and technology controls that support accurate financial reporting and the protection of client assets. The SCO’s assessments include work related to Internal Control over Financial Reporting (ICFR) for SOX and FDICIA, and Internal Control over Compliance (ICOC) for SEA Rule 17a-5.
You will have the opportunity to work with SCO Business Process and IT testing specialists so you can explore different parts of the assessment process and discover what you enjoy most. You will participate in walkthrough meetings, help review documentation and evidence, complete testing and issue analysis, and contribute to reporting testing results. Through these experiences, you will gain a realistic view of the day-to-day work of full-time SCO employees and better understand whether beginning your career with Schwab and the SCO is the right fit for you.
As an intern you will:
- Learn how Schwab evaluates business process and technology controls that support financial reporting and client asset protection
- Gain exposure to broker-dealer, bank, and corporate processes through risk assessments, control testing, and project testing
- Participate in walkthrough discussions with control performers and help document processes, flowcharts, risks, and controls
- Support testing activities by reviewing documentation, analyzing sample evidence, documenting procedures performed, and discussing results with the team
- Collaborate with SCO team members and gain exposure to how management, external auditors, and other Schwab testing programs work together to strengthen the control environment
- Develop professional skills in communication, organization, critical thinking, documentation, and teamwork
- Grow on a supportive team through regular supervisor check-ins, coaching, feedback conversations, and opportunities to ask questions as you learn
- Explore opportunities to improve and innovate SCO processes, including through artificial intelligence, automation, data analysis, and data visualization tools

Required Qualifications
- Current student pursuing a bachelor’s degree or higher in Accounting, Internal Audit, Information Systems, or a related field.
- Ability to begin full-time employment between August 2027 and September 2028.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively in team settings, understanding responsibilities, and communicating progress
- Demonstration of responsibility, organization, and growth through feedback and lessons learned over time

- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to stay organized, manage multiple priorities, and ask for help when priorities shift
