Corporate Risk Management Intern

This internship offers hands-on exposure to how risk management operates in a leading financial services organization. Interns support real risk-related initiatives across compliance, financial crimes, technology risk, operational risk, and governance functions while developing durable skills in analysis, communication, collaboration, and structured problem solving.

Through meaningful project work, risk assessments, reporting, documentation, and stakeholder engagement, interns gain insights into how Schwab identifies, manages, and mitigates risks to protect clients, employees, and the firm.

Sub-Organization Opportunity Areas Include:

  • Financial Crimes Risk Management (FCRM)
    Helps protect Schwab and its clients by identifying, assessing, and mitigating risks related to fraud, money laundering, sanctions, and other financial crimes.
  • Corporate Compliance
    Promotes adherence to regulatory requirements and internal standards through monitoring, oversight, risk assessment, and compliance support activities.
  • Technology Risk Management (TRM)
    Provides oversight and governance of technology and cybersecurity risks to support resilient, secure, and compliant business operations.
  • Enterprise & Operational Risk Management (EORM)
    Supports firm-wide risk identification, assessment, monitoring, and issue management across business and operational processes.
  • Governance & Program Management
    Develops and maintains risk frameworks, policies, reporting, and governance processes that enable effective enterprise risk management.

Required Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in a bachelor's degree program and entering junior-level standing by internship start date.
  • Have not completed your bachelor's degree prior to the internship.
  • Able to commit to 40 hours per week during the 9-week Summer 2027 internship program.
  • Able to begin full-time employment between August 2027 and September 2028.
  • Authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis without employer sponsorship.
  • Willing to relocate at personal expense if required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Pursuing a degree in Business, Finance, Accounting, Economics, Risk Management, Information Systems, Cybersecurity, Data Analytics, Public Policy, or a related field.
  • Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving skills through academic, professional, or extracurricular experiences.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to organize and present information clearly.
  • Detail-oriented with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Experience analyzing data and drawing meaningful conclusions.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Demonstrated curiosity, learning agility, and willingness to take on new challenges.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, Word, and other productivity tools.
  • Interest in risk management, compliance, governance, cybersecurity, financial crime prevention, or financial services.
  • Strong organizational skills and a commitment to accuracy, accountability, and follow-through.
