Charles Schwab's Retail Strategy & Planning is the internal management consulting group for the Retail business, which is the primary business unit at Schwab and has 13,000 employees worldwide. Retail Strategy & Planning serves as a trusted adviser to the head of the Retail business and the Retail Leadership Team and works on strategic and operational issues at the top of senior management's agenda. Our team of roughly 15 professionals is a premier pipeline for diverse and high potential talent, and alumni include senior leaders across the entire firm.

Retail Strategy & Planning serves two primary functions: 1) assisting with strategic decisions for the Retail Leadership Team, and 2) supporting the operational and business planning needs of the Retail Leadership Team.

This opening is for the Retail Strategy function. Typical projects include growth strategy, market assessment and entry evaluation, M&A and divestiture strategy, and operating model / organizational design.

Job Summary:

We are seeking a Manager, Retail Strategy (individual contributor) who will help shape plans for new initiatives and manage high priority strategy projects. As a Manager, you will have the opportunity to:

  • Influence key strategic decisions that shape the direction of the company
  • Define impactful business strategies for Schwab’s Retail business
  • Support the execution of work streams for large, complex projects
  • Work alongside dynamic, motivated, and intellectually curious colleagues from top consulting firms and leading undergraduate and MBA programs
  • Build relationships with a wide range of business partners, develop a deep understanding of the Retail business, and uniquely position yourself as an invaluable subject matter authority
  • Regularly present strategic insights and recommendations to the firm's senior leadership

What you have


Required Qualifications:

  • 1-2 years of full-time work experience with a top-tier consulting firm, financial services firm, strategy group at a large organization, or investment bank
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Ability to craft executive presentations for internal and external audiences that articulate our vision, strategy and progress
  • Demonstrated ability developing relevant business stories to communicate business strategies and recommendations
  • Experience creating and maintaining perspective on strategic implications of key developments in the external environment, industry trends, and competitor actions
  • Strategic thinking with strong business judgment and analytical skills
  • Ability to develop and share a point of view, and create alignment across all levels of the enterprise
  • Financial modeling skills and knowledge of financial/valuation concepts
  • High attention to detail, sense of urgency, and proactiveness
  • Proficiency with PowerPoint and Excel

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated interpersonal skills, and ability to operate in cross-functional teams
  • Comfort in a dynamic and fast-paced work environment
  • Personally and professionally aligned with Schwab’s vision and values, and a deep interest in financial services

In addition to the salary range, this role is also eligible for bonus or incentive opportunities.
