We are seeking a Director of Business Strategy to play a pivotal role in shaping the future of our firm. You will collaborate directly with key leaders across the enterprise to develop strategic initiatives which ensure we remain at the forefront of the RIA industry.
This position is within the Strategy Exploration & Planning team, a critical group that empowers leaders across Advisor Services to explore and set strategic direction, frame key business decisions, and influence resource allocation for high-value opportunities. The team is dedicated to conducting in-depth research, facilitating strategic conversations, and ensuring that Schwab maintains a strong and competitive position within the RIA ecosystem. Your expertise will be crucial in assessing industry trends, developing business cases, and synthesizing a comprehensive Advisor Services perspective on critical strategic decisions. Key Responsibilities:
- Strategic Vision and Execution:
- Lead and oversee key strategic projects in collaboration with Advisor Services leaders and the Advisor Services leadership team.
- Synthesize and perform comprehensive research (client insights, research studies/reports, interviews, & analytics) specific to the Registered Investment Advisor industry.
- Conduct clear, consistent, and data-driven analysis to inform key business decisions and deliver strategic recommendations.
- Define and execute on long-term strategy deliverables for Advisor Services, ensuring alignment with overall business goals and Schwab’s mission to champion every client’s goals with passion and integrity.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration:
- Engage with internal partners such as client-facing teams, operations, technology, legal, and compliance to ensure strategic alignment and progress.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with external partners to leverage their expertise and resources.
- Partner effectively across various groups to drive change and achieve results, especially in areas outside the AS business. This includes supporting industry assessments, business case development, and synthesizing an Advisor Services point of view on critical strategic decisions.
- Facilitate conversations and conduct research aimed at safeguarding or improving Schwab’s competitive position and uncovering long-term opportunities for growth.
- Business Oversight and Risk Management:
- Ensure business oversight and risk management by maintaining a clear understanding of market trends and client needs.
- Make informed tradeoff decisions and prioritize strategic initiatives to maximize impact and efficiency.
- Operate autonomously in a dynamic and fast-moving work environment while managing multiple tasks and meeting tight deadlines.
- Develop and maintain a strong sense of urgency and attention to detail in all aspects of the role.
- Communication and Stakeholder Management:
- Support the development of high-impact executive presentations that articulate our vision, strategy, and progress for both internal and external audiences.
- Possess excellent communication skills to articulate the vision and strategy to both internal and external stakeholders.
- Build credibility and trusting relationships with peers and stakeholders to ensure smooth collaboration and support.
- Handle ambiguity effectively and provide clear direction and guidance to the team.
What you have
- Experience:
- Minimum 5 years of business strategy consulting or internal strategy group experience (may be partially offset with experience working directly with RIAs).
- Minimum of 10+ years of total work experience.
- Skills:
- Exceptional executive presence, emotional maturity, collaboration, and influencing skills.
- Strategic thinker with strong business judgment and analytical skills.
- Ability to develop and share a point of view and create alignment across all levels of the enterprise.
- Highly resourceful, adaptable, and creative problem solver who can thrive in a dynamic environment, solve issues as they arise, and drive progress in the face of ambiguity.
- Ability to craft high-impact executive presentations for internal and external audiences that articulate our vision, strategy, and progress.
- Strong acumen in financial services and wealth management.
- Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Economics, or a related field.
- MBA or advanced degree in a relevant field preferable
- Other:
- Strong ethical standards and a commitment to compliance and risk management.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment with a focus on delivering high-quality results.
