About the Opportunity

The Enterprise & Operational Risk Management (EORM) department’s mission is to enable Schwab’s businesses to help our client’s Own Their Tomorrow through excellence in risk management.  Our strategic vision is to implement and maintain an EORM model that sets the highest standards, challenges the status quo, and keeps business partner and client needs at the center of our work, while remaining responsive to the regulatory landscape and broader industry trends, thereby ensuring Schwab maintains its competitive advantage. 

This role reports to the Director, Strategy and Operations, and is responsible for leading the implementation of corporate policy and standard changes as well as key risk management initiatives across the Company. They will drive standardization of processes, create an efficient and scalable structure, and streamline change management activities across our risk programs.  

What You’ll Do

The Senior Manager reports to the Director, Strategy and Operations, and is responsible for supporting strong risk management programs and practices in partnership with leaders and teams building and delivering quality risk management programs, policies, standards and capabilities across the company.  You will execute priority work in a highly interdependent, cross-functional environment to enable the organization’s ability to effectively and efficiently manage risk.  

Risk Program Operations & Enablement

  • Manage a portfolio of high impact change initiatives, working collaboratively to deliver sound implementation strategies and execute those strategies to drive successful adoption of risk management changes across the Company’s programs and businesses. 
  • Draft and monitor Implementation Plans that address the short and long-term needs of our partners and achieve desired objectives. 
  • Create and drive a focused, consistent and strategic approach to implementation of risk initiatives, engaging appropriate partners, and leveraging strong partnerships to drive the most effective results possible. 
  • Support Standard and Policy owners in writing and editing for clarity and conciseness 
  • Determine the methods, techniques and approaches for obtaining desired results, including stakeholder engagement, communication, partnership development, change management, and prioritization. 
  • This position will work closely with business partners to ensure implementation plans for changes in the risk space are detailed and timed appropriately given other projects and initiatives. 
  • This role requires coordination and collaboration to work with multiple areas of Schwab to seamlessly affect and support change with our business partners. 

Project Management 

  • Lead projects associated with EORM’s risk programs’ objectives 
  • Drive to successful execution of project tasks and deliverables 
  • Develop and execute on project plans, using various software and applications 
  • Coordinate and facilitate meetings, preparing agendas and tracking action items 

Reporting Analytics, Training Strategy & Business Planning

  • Support internal workflows and processes 
  • Build roadmaps to aid in capacity planning, prioritization and strategy decision making 
  • Provide status reports 
  • Use data to identify areas of opportunity and implement solutions for reducing cycle-time and drive efficiency across processes 
  • Coordinate evidence and documentation in order support and respond to audit and examination requests

  • Builds strategic partnerships to stay informed of upcoming business initiatives and proactively identify partner needs 
  • Engages in active partnership with broader Risk Program Operations and Enterprise and Operational Risk Management team members to challenge thinking, create innovative solutions, and demonstrate courage in decision making 
  • Provides direction and support to key business partners to build and maintain relationships 
  • Ability to deliver superior interpersonal, verbal, and written communication and effectively communicate with leadership, cross-functional team members, and business partners 
  • Builds strong partnerships and influences positive change across the company, fostering a culture of continuous learning and improvement 
  • Ability to listen with intent to understand, ask thoughtful questions from a place of natural curiosity, and maintain strong self-awareness while modeling calm under pressure.

  • Ability to read, comprehend, write and edit technical documents 

Project Management

  • Manage multiple, high-complexity projects independently 
  • Lead all aspects, from end-to-end, for developing, implementing, and delivering change and enablement projects, and own ongoing post-implementation requirements 
  • Liaise between key stakeholders for training program related matters and drive successful outcomes 

Problem-Solving Skills

  • Ability to apply critical thinking skills to navigate complex situations, influence others, and execute in a client-centric approach 
  • Sharp critical thinking and business analysis skills (creative, strategic, and practical), ability to prioritize the most vital areas and strong business judgement  
  • Anticipates and resolves problems under initiatives and projects while also working in a collaborative team environment 

Transformation and Change Management

  • Enhances employee risk management and compliance behaviors, ensuring they are aligned with Schwab’s client-focused mission 
  • Ability to leverage stakeholder and change impact assessments and other analytics to build and execute right-sized change and implementation strategies 
  • Understanding of change journey (ADKAR) and levers to pull throughout journey to support users and stakeholders in moving through each stage towards adoption

Required Qualifications:

  • 8+ years of communications, enablement, or change management experience
  • 2+ years of project management experience
  • Excellent visualization and presentation skills with the ability to inform and persuade both verbally and written 
  • Ability to embrace and face change head-on and champion a growth mindset 
  • Expert proficiency in all Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Visio; working knowledge of SharePoint and learning management platforms 
  • Self-motivated, able to bring projects to conclusion within established timeframes 
  • BA/BS degree 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with risk management 
  • Change management experience and/or certification 
  • Background in financial services 
  • Background in corporate risk management 
  • Experience engaging or supporting high-level leaders 
  • Project management certification
