The Schwab SRE Platform team is seeking a Senior Software Engineer – Platform Developer to join a specialized group developing shared reliability tooling for Schwab’s SRE and production support teams. The SRE Platform team focuses on empowering support teams through self-service, consolidating and scaling support capabilities, improving the production support engineer experience, and creating force multipliers through collaborative development.
As a member of the development team, you will design and build automation, shared platform services, backend integrations, and AI-enabled solutions that improve operational efficiency and reduce support toil.
This is primarily a hands-on software development and platform engineering role rather than a traditional production support position. You will partner with engineering teams, architects, product owners, and operational stakeholders to turn recurring support challenges into secure, reusable, production-ready capabilities that can be adopted across the organization.

- Delivers shared SRE Platform capabilities that measurably reduce toil, remove support constraints, and reduce duplicative tooling investments.
- Balances deep hands-on engineering with partnership, stakeholder engagement, and delivery ownership.
- Adapts quickly across projects, technologies, and evolving AI capabilities.
- Builds enterprise-ready solutions that elevate the collective capabilities of application support teams.
- Creates trust through clear communication, sound engineering judgment, and consistent follow-through.
What You’ll Do:
- Develop Platform, Automation, and AI-Enabled Solutions
- Design, develop, and operate secure, reusable software solutions across platform automation, backend services, APIs, integrations, data workflows, and AI-enabled capabilities.
- Convert recurring operational pain points into shared capabilities that reduce manual effort and duplicate tooling across support teams.
- Lead development workstreams from discovery and technical design through implementation, release, validation, and adoption.
- Contribute to AI agent development work and related AI solutions that improve operational analysis, incident triage, change validation, and other production support workflows.
- Adapt across emerging technologies, SaaS platforms, cloud services, GitHub Actions, AI solution patterns, and other tools needed to deliver practical, measurable operational value.
- Contribute to architecture decisions supporting scalability, security, reliability, maintainability, and long-term platform evolution.
- Collaborate Across the Organization
- Partner with SRE, application support, ITSM, architecture, security, and delivery teams to understand needs and jointly develop reusable solutions.
- Engage stakeholders throughout the development lifecycle to build alignment, encourage adoption, and incorporate feedback.
- Work effectively across multiple initiatives and technologies while maintaining clear ownership and delivery focus.
What you have
Required Qualifications:
- 8+ years of software engineering experience designing, developing, and supporting enterprise applications or platforms.
- Strong hands-on Python development experience building production-grade applications, APIs, automation, data processing, and integration services.
- Experience with Java and Spring Framework, including REST API development and integrating software with enterprise applications, databases, and external services.
- Hands-on experience developing production AI applications, intelligent automation, or agentic workflows using pro-code frameworks and software engineering practices.
- Experience with CI/CD, automated testing, application security, observability, and production troubleshooting.
- Experience working in Agile delivery environments.
- PostgreSQL and SQL experience, including database design, query development, and production data troubleshooting.
- Experience developing and supporting applications deployed to PCF Application Service and Google Cloud Platform.
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or a related discipline, or equivalent professional experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with TypeScript for application and GitHub Action development.
- Experience with Robotic Process Automation (RPA), Power Automate, Copilot Studio, or comparable automation platforms.
- Experience developing solutions for SRE, incident management, change management, certificate management, operational validation, or ITSM workflows.
- Experience in financial services or another highly regulated environment.
- Experience mentoring engineers, influencing technical direction, and promoting reusable engineering patterns across teams.
- Cross-team collaboration and stakeholder engagement across support, engineering, and delivery organizations.
