The Model Risk Oversight (MRO) organization at Charles Schwab is seeking a highly accomplished quantitative leader to join the firm as a Senior Manager responsible for independent oversight of advanced artificial intelligence (AI) and financial models supporting Schwab’s investment, advisory, and digital assets initiatives. This role focuses on validation of models spanning machine learning (ML), generative AI, and emerging agentic AI systems, as well as traditional financial models used in portfolio construction, trading analytics, and advisory recommendation engines. The position could also validate models related to digital assets, private equity markets, and alternative investment strategies.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead independent validation of quantitative, machine learning, and generative AI models used across investment and advisory platforms.
Evaluate model design, assumptions, theoretical soundness, data inputs, and empirical performance.
Assess risks related to data quality, feature engineering, model drift, explainability, and AI model limitations.
Validate models supporting portfolio construction, trading analytics, advisory recommendations, digital assets, and private equity markets.
Prepare detailed validation reports and present findings to senior management and regulatory stakeholders.
What you have
Qualifications:
Master’s degree required; PhD preferred in Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science, Engineering, Finance, or a related quantitative discipline.
8+ years of experience in model validation, model development, quantitative finance, or AI/ML modeling.
Strong experience with machine learning, generative AI, or large language model architecture.
Deep understanding of SR 11-7 model validation standards.
Proficiency in Python, R, SQL, or similar analytical tools.
Strong communication skills and ability to explain complex technical findings.
