Schwab Technology Services develop innovative and reliable technology solutions that help clients manage their money. Within Broker-Dealer Service Engineering, Client Data Shared Services builds centralized capabilities that enable Schwab teams to access, move, and use client data efficiently.

As a Software Development & Engineer, you will lead the design, development, and production support of high-volume services, data pipelines, and event-driven solutions. You will make sound technical decisions, resolve complex engineering challenges, and remain accountable for quality, reliability, and business outcomes from design through production.

Success requires hands-on technical leadership, adaptability, and close collaboration with product, architecture, vendor, offshore, and internal engineering teams. You will also mentor engineers and advance responsible AI-assisted development practices that improve delivery while maintaining clear ownership of code quality and correctness.

What you have


Required qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, computer science, or a related field
  • 8+ years of experience with Java, Spring, cloud technologies, and REST or SOAP web services in high-volume, highly available environments
  • 3+ years of experience with distributed or NoSQL databases, including PostgreSQL, MongoDB, or Yugabyte
  • 3+ years of experience with real-time data processing and streaming solutions
  • 3+ years of experience with continuous build tools and version-control platforms, including Bamboo, Bitbucket, or Git
  • 3+ years of experience developing batch-processing or data-pipeline solutions using technologies such as Spring Batch or PySpark
  • 2+ years of experience with GCP, AWS, or Microsoft Azure
  • 2+ years of experience developing event-driven systems using Kafka, RabbitMQ, or other messaging technologies
  • 2+ years of experience deploying cloud-based solutions through CI/CD practices
  • Experience using GitHub Copilot, Claude Code, or similar AI-assisted engineering tools while maintaining accountability for code quality and correctness

Preferred qualifications

  • Ability to apply Software Development and Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) skills to design, build, test, deploy, and support reliable services
  • Ability to use Analytical Thinking and Problem Solving to evaluate technical options, identify risks, and make decisions based on business and operational impact
  • Experience developing technical specifications, API contracts, data models, and production-ready code
  • Experience applying Code Review Practices, automated testing, and operational discipline to improve quality and production stability
  • Experience collaborating across product, architecture, vendor, offshore, and internal stakeholder groups
  • Ability to adapt to changing priorities, emerging technologies, and evolving delivery practices
  • Experience mentoring engineers through code reviews, pairing, design discussions, and knowledge sharing
  • Experience using Jira and Confluence in an Agile development environment
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to explain technical decisions to technical and nontechnical audiences

In addition to the salary range, this role is eligible for bonus or incentive opportunities.
