This position is for a senior engineering people leader responsible for enterprise‑scale delivery across distributed Java services and modern Angular‑based UI platforms. The role leads teams building secure, high‑performance, cloud‑ready client experiences and provides hands‑on technical leadership, architectural governance, and delivery accountability across multiple workstreams within Schwab Technology Services.

This role sits within Schwab Technology Services (STS) in the Software Development & Engineering job family and is accountable for driving delivery excellence across a portfolio of modern services and user interfaces. The leader partners closely with Product, Architecture, and SRE to execute modernization initiatives, improve resiliency and observability, and accelerate time‑to‑market while maintaining strong engineering and risk‑management standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead one or more agile engineering teams delivering Java/Spring‑based backend services and Angular UI capabilities, ensuring delivery predictability, quality, and operational stability.
  • Provide technical and architectural leadership across service APIs, UI component architecture, and cloud‑native patterns including microservices and containers.
  • Establish and enforce engineering standards including secure SDLC practices, performance budgets, accessibility (WCAG), code quality gates, and automated testing strategies.
  • Partner with Product Owners and business stakeholders to translate outcomes into executable roadmaps, prioritized backlogs, and reliable delivery plans.
  • Drive operational excellence through strong observability practices, incident learnings, release readiness, and SLO‑oriented thinking.
  • Coach and develop engineers and team leads, supporting hiring, onboarding, performance management, and long‑term leadership development.

What you have

Required Qualifications

  • 8+ years of experience building and supporting large‑scale Java applications (Java, Spring/Spring Boot, REST APIs).
  • 5+ years of experience leading engineering delivery as a team lead or people leader across multiple contributors and/or squads.
  • 4+ years of professional experience with Angular, including component architecture, routing, RxJS, and unit/E2E testing.
  • 4+ years of experience delivering cloud‑native solutions using CI/CD pipelines with automated quality and security gates.
  • Experience with microservices and containers in cloud environments (e.g., PCF, Kubernetes).
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with Product, Architecture, SRE, and partner teams, with strong written and verbal communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with micro‑frontend architectures such as Angular Module Federation.
  • Experience implementing enterprise observability patterns (logs, metrics, traces) and performance tuning across UI and service layers.
  • Financial services experience and familiarity with risk‑ and compliance‑driven delivery environments.
  • Experience using AI‑assisted development tools and automation to improve SDLC efficiency.
  • Strong background in Agile delivery, DevOps practices, and scaled engineering execution.
