Schwab’s Move Money technology organization builds the capabilities that enable clients to move funds securely and reliably across brokerage and banking products. As a Java Software Engineer, you will design and deliver scalable services supporting high-volume payment activity across ACH, wires, checks, and internal transfers.
Working within an Agile team, you will solve complex engineering problems, shape component designs, strengthen automated testing, and improve the resilience of production systems. You will collaborate with product owners, architects, site reliability engineers, and business partners to translate priorities into dependable solutions and make informed technical decisions.
Your contributions will modernize critical platforms, improve the client experience, and advance secure, reliable money movement. You will also help develop engineering talent through coaching, knowledge sharing, and thoughtful technical leadership.
What you have
Required Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, a related field, or equivalent practical experience
- 6+ years of experience developing large-scale, highly available software using Java, Spring Boot, cloud frameworks, and REST APIs
- 5+ years of experience with cloud-based containers and microservices
- 5+ years of experience with continuous integration and continuous delivery using GitHub, GitHub Actions, or comparable technologies
- 5+ years of experience implementing automated unit, acceptance, and integration tests
- 5+ years of experience using SQL Server, PostgreSQL, Aerospike, DB2, or comparable databases
- 3+ years of experience developing messaging applications using Kafka, RabbitMQ, or equivalent technologies
- 3+ years of experience implementing authentication protocols such as OAuth or SAML
- 3+ years of experience building and maintaining integrations with vendor systems supporting banking or money movement
- Demonstrated Problem Solving, Decision Making, Communication, and Cross-Functional Collaboration skills
- Experience mentoring engineers and contributing to secure, resilient production systems
Preferred Qualifications
- 3+ years of experience with AWS, Google Cloud Platform, or Pivotal Cloud Foundry
- 2+ years of experience modernizing legacy applications into distributed platforms
- Experience developing batch applications with Spring-based frameworks and enterprise scheduling tools
- Knowledge of banking or payment platforms, including FIS Profile or Enterprise Payments Platform
- Experience producing architectural diagrams, design documentation, and technical specifications
- Experience working in Agile environments and using Jira and Confluence
- Adaptability and a commitment to continuous learning across evolving technologies
In addition to the salary range, this role is eligible for bonus or incentive opportunities.
