Your opportunity

At Schwab, your career is more than a job—it's an opportunity to impact the lives of millions. Innovation and creative problem solving thrive here, as we challenge conventional approaches and prioritize collaboration. We value in-person teamwork, so this role is based on-site at our San Francisco office.

Schwab’s AI Strategy & Transformation team, known as AI.x, is the central hub for Artificial Intelligence at Schwab. We are an integrated product, engineering, research, risk, and enablement team focused on advancing AI responsibly across the enterprise. We help shape the enterprise vision for AI, invest in the most promising opportunities, accelerate delivery across the company, and build the core platform that powers AI at scale.

The Director of Responsible AI will lead the vision, implementation, and oversight of Schwab’s responsible AI development strategy for client-facing AI solutions. This role will focus on building rigorous frameworks that combine automated evaluations with human review to support trustworthy, well-governed AI experiences for Schwab clients.
The Director will partner closely with legal, risk, compliance, product, engineering, and research teams to embed responsible AI development practices into how client-facing AI solutions are designed, tested, evaluated, and improved. By creating clear standards, repeatable processes, and strong cross-functional alignment, this role will help Schwab proactively manage AI risks while enabling responsible innovation at scale.
You will lead Schwab’s responsible AI development strategy for client-facing AI solutions, establishing the frameworks, standards, and operating practices needed to evaluate, monitor, and improve AI experiences responsibly. This includes designing rigorous evaluation approaches that combine automated testing with human review, partnering across product, engineering, research, legal, risk, and compliance teams, and embedding responsible AI practices into the full development lifecycle from design through deployment and ongoing improvement. You will help translate emerging AI risks, regulatory expectations, and enterprise standards into practical guidance for teams building client-facing solutions, while creating repeatable processes that enable innovation, strengthen trust, and support Schwab’s commitment to responsible AI at scale.
