We’re looking for a Quality Assurance Engineer who thrives on solving complex challenges and shaping technology that millions of traders rely on every day. Join our thinkorswim® backend services team and work on the core of an innovative trading platform—secure login, real-time market data, order routing, and advanced risk and margin calculations. You’ll lead automation and quality strategies in an agile environment, collaborating with top engineers to deliver resilient, high-performance systems at scale. What you have


Required Qualifications

▪ 3 years: Leading design and executes comprehensive test strategies for backend services, APIs, and distributed

systems, including inter‑service communication such as Java RMI and messaging patterns.

▪ 3 years: Applying analytical skills to validate real-time data, order routing, authentication/login workflows, and other

critical backend processes using production-like data and environments.

▪ 3 years: Testing complex trading platforms—covering critical user journeys such as authentication and seamless

login experiences, real-time market data distribution, and order execution—to ensure accuracy, resiliency, and

performance at scale.

▪ 8 years: Troubleshooting issues in high-throughput, low-latency systems, leveraging logs, metrics, and traces to

isolate defects across service boundaries.

▪ 2 years: Applying proficiency with Java, microservices, REST APIs, and at least one messaging platform (e.g., Kafka,

RabbitMQ, JMS, or QDS), plus common test and build tools (JUnit/TestNG, Gradle/Maven, Git, TeamCity/GitHub

Actions).

  1-2 years of Schwab technology domain experience gained as a current or recent contractor or employee

▪ 10 years: Utilizing relational databases and SQL for large-scale data validation and troubleshooting.

▪ 15 years: Guiding QA strategy by leveraging deep knowledge of backend systems and industry best practices.

▪ 10 years: Championing QA best practices in an Agile environment and driving continuous improvement of test

coverage and reliability.

▪ 2 years: Using API testing tools (e.g., Postman, RestAssured)

▪ Produces high-quality documentation and test artifacts tailored for different audiences (engineering, product,

compliance).

Mentors team members and shares expertise to foster growth in test automation, performance testing, and resiliency practices.
Synthesizes stakeholder input to make informed decisions and anticipate impacts on quality and delivery.
Seeks innovative methods and tools to improve test efficiency and effectiveness, including contract testing, schema validation, and automation for messaging services (Kafka/JMS/QDS).
Influences improvements in CI/CD integration, test observability, and overall QA process maturity.
Produces highquality documentation and test artifacts tailored for different audiences (engineering, product, compliance).
Hands-on experience with automation frameworks (e.g., Selenium, Cypress, Playwright) and API testing tools (e.g., Postman, RestAssured).
Experience with performance/load testing (e.g., Gatling, JMeter, K6) and resiliency scenarios (timeouts, retries, failover).
Knowledge of advanced SQL techniques for largescale data validation.
