The Compensation and Benefit Accounting team is part of the Corporate Controller’s Department, which is responsible for all financial accounting and reporting for the Charles Schwab Corporation and subsidiaries. In collaboration with our business partners, we provide comprehensive financial information to shareholders, management, regulators, and tax authorities.
The Senior Specialist is responsible for performing various monthly and quarterly financial accounting functions, executing on internal controls to ensure a SOX compliant environment, and collaborating with business partners to ensure timely and accurate recording of business transactions. This position will report directly to the Team Manager.
What you have
2-5 years of experience related to accounting and month-end close functions in medium to large companies preferred
Advanced Microsoft Excel and financial reporting skills preferred
Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance
Public-company, internal audit, and/or Financial services experience preferred
Proactive, results-oriented operating style
Strong attention to detail
Excellent time management skills
Strong written and verbal communication skills. Can articulate sophisticated technical issues in a way that non-experts can understand
Solid understanding of GAAP
PeopleSoft Financial experience is a plus
Data analysis experience and/or process optimization experience is a plus
Certified public accountant is a plus
What you'll do:
Prepares and records monthly and quarterly journal entries
Reconciles balance sheet accounts and manages subledger data
Prepares variance analysis on a monthly, quarterly, and annual basis
Understands and executes on internal controls
Identifies process improvements
Analyzes large sets of data and files involving confidential data, and is a trusted steward of sensitive information
Provides support to team members, internal business partners, and internal and external auditors
Develops and maintain strong cross-functional relationships with a variety of business partners
Completes special projects and ad-hoc requests
In addition to the salary range, this position is also eligible for bonus or incentive opportunities.
