Schwab Asset Management (SAM) is a leading asset manager supporting mutual funds, ETFs, and managed account products governed under stringent regulatory and compliance requirements. SAM operates in a multi‑cloud, multi‑custodian, multi‑vendor ecosystem, relying on a diverse set of external platforms such as Vestmark, Aladdin, Eagle, and others to serve its investment, operational, and regulatory functions.
The SAMDA BSA / Scrum Master is a hybrid role responsible for driving delivery execution while owning business and data requirements clarity for teams building on the SAMDA platform. This role ensures that complex investment and operational data initiatives are translated into well‑defined, prioritized, and executable work, and that teams deliver consistently using Agile best practices.
Acting as both a Business Systems Analyst (BSA) and Scrum Master, this role partners closely with Product Owners, Tech Leads, Platform Engineering, and business stakeholders to align scope, remove delivery friction, and maintain predictable execution across sprints. The role is critical to keeping SAMDA teams focused, unblocked, and outcome‑oriented.
Key Responsibilities:
Business Analysis & Requirements Ownership
- Partner with Product Owners and business stakeholders to elicit, analyze, and document business, data, and operational requirements.
- Translate business needs into clear user stories, acceptance criteria, and data requirements suitable for Agile delivery teams.
- Own and maintain the product backlog, ensuring items are well‑defined, prioritized, and ready for sprint execution.
- Ensure requirements reflect data governance, regulatory, and operational considerations relevant to SAMDA initiatives.
- Support dependency identification and clarify impacts across data domains, platform capabilities, and downstream consumers.
Scrum Master & Agile Delivery
- Serve as the Scrum Master for one or more SAMDA delivery teams.
- Facilitate all core Agile ceremonies, including:
- Sprint Planning
- Daily Stand‑ups
- Sprint Reviews / Demos
- Retrospectives
- Coach the team on Agile principles, Scrum practices, and continuous improvement.
- Remove or escalate impediments that block team progress.
- Protect the team from unplanned work and scope churn while balancing delivery commitments.
Delivery Execution & Coordination
- Track sprint execution, dependencies, and risks, ensuring predictable delivery and transparency.
- Coordinate across platform teams, data domain teams, and external dependencies to keep work moving.
- Support release planning and readiness activities in collaboration with Tech Leads and Product Owners.
- Maintain delivery artifacts and ensure alignment across Jira, documentation, and reporting tools.
Stakeholder Communication & Alignment
- Act as a primary point of coordination between delivery teams and stakeholders.
- Communicate sprint progress, risks, and trade‑offs clearly to Product Owners and leadership.
- Facilitate discussions to resolve scope, priority, and dependency conflicts.
- Ensure stakeholders have a clear, shared understanding of delivery goals and timelines.
Continuous Improvement & Team Health
- Use Agile metrics (e.g., velocity, throughput, cycle time) to identify improvement opportunities.
- Drive retrospectives toward actionable outcomes, not just discussion.
- Promote a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous learning.
- Help teams mature their Agile practices over time.
