Your Opportunity

Your opportunity

The R&D Software Engineer will be part of a small development team to conduct research on emerging technology and user trends, create innovative concepts to improve Schwab's customer experience, implement prototypes and present them to Schwab Leadership teams.

Are you a type of person who welcomes the challenge and the passion for cutting edge technology to achieve something extraordinary? Do you like the idea of turning a “sketch on a napkin” into something your users can see, touch and feel?

Our team is responsible for conducting experiments that yield learnings to the business and technology teams, inspiring them to take successful concepts to production. The R&D team, by design, works in sandbox environments and develops proofs-of-concept (PoC) to advise and catalyze production product backlogs.

What you are good at:

  • Collaborating with and mentoring a small group of talented engineers to perform R&D functions by exploring technology & user trends, implementing PoCs, and presenting the functioning concepts to Schwab’s executives.
  • Working with other Schwab technology and product organizations to arrange and coordinate technology discussions, demos, idea brainstorms as well as strategic planning activities.
  • Anticipating technology advancements that may impact Schwab products, services, or customer experience.
  • Developing industry expertise and stay abreast of technology trends; contributing to staff development by sharing industry and technical  knowledge.
  • Integrating consumer, marketplace, technical and business trends and insights into R&D plans and projects.
  • Exceptional ability and desire to acquire new knowledge and skills to solve challenges.
  • Must have the capacity to think outside the box and lead others in doing so.

What you have

  • Strong desire to “wow” our customers.
  • Strong technical knowledge around Gen-AI and associated technologies (i.e., LLMs, PyTorch/Tensorflow, Transformers, Deep Learning, Reinforcement Learning)
  • Strong understanding and desire for data analysis
  • Passionate in cutting-edge technologies, intolerant to poor product designs
  • Enjoy working with people in a diverse team environment.
  • 6-8 years computer engineering (or similar work) experience desired, with 2-4 years in AI with an emphasis on Generative AI
  • Ability to think on one’s feet and enjoy finding new ways to solve problems.
  • Excellent communication skills for both small and large audiences. Having the ability to clearly articulate direction decisions.
  • Experience in mentoring junior engineers with frameworks and best practices.
  • Financial industry experience is a big plus.
