The Charles Schwab’s Core Technology Solutions organization is looking for an experienced and motivated Senior Application Production Support Engineer to be part of a team comprised of Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) supporting a large portfolio of systems and applications in the Treasury, Securities Lending, and Risk Technology space.   


Your responsibilities will include working with a blended development team of on-shore and off-shore SMEs, systems administrators, DBAs, and business analysts to perform troubleshooting and resolution efforts of incidents impacting production systems. 

What you will do:

  • Support Financial Services applications as an SME in the Service Availability and Engineering team.
  • Solve problems and provide support, taking responsibility to make decisions when appropriate. 
  • Leverage ITIL principles to bring scale and efficiency to the organization.
  • Expand alerting and monitoring to improve operational resiliency and availability.
  • Employ monitoring to improve Mean Time To Detect (MTTD) and Mean Time To Resolve (MTTR) metrics as part of analyzing trends and making recommendations for continuous improvement. 
  • Drive Incident Management calls, providing clear, concise, and timely communication to Application and Business stakeholders during the triage, troubleshooting, investigation, and resolution of individual or system-wide outages. 
  • Document and maintain resolutions in the Schwab Knowledge Base Article System. 
  • Develop/Improve Production Readiness processes to ensure the team is ready to support features deployed to production.
  • Coordinate application maintenance activities, such as OS upgrades, Disaster Recovery exercises, Vulnerability Remediations, certificate renewals, password rotations,  etc. 
  • Maintain and promote environment objects such as certificates, password rotations, currency patching in alignment with best practices, security standards, and guidelines.
  • Responsible for ensuring the Change Implementation Management policies are adhered to for all changes deployed to Production. 
  • Provide off hours release / deployment and on-call support of service recovery events on a rotational basis.

Required Qualifications: 

  • Degree in Computer Science or Engineering or related field.
  • 5+ years Application Production Support/Operations or similar experience.
  • Working knowledge of automated deployment processes and tools such as Bitbucket/Bamboo and/or Git.
  • 1-2 years of Schwab technology domain experience as a current or recent contractor or employee.
  • Exposure to Cloud/SaaS applications. 
  • SQL/Databases (SQL Server).
  • OS: Windows, Linux.
  • Control-M or similar enterprise automation technology.
  • Splunk.
  • ITIL Processes including Change, Incident, Problem Management, & Root Cause Analysis.
  • Remedy, JIRA, Confluence. 


Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Superior oral and written communication skills with the ability to communicate clearly and concisely.
  • Strong ownership mentality. 
  • Keen focus on metrics and trend analysis.
  • Self-motivated with a strong ability to identify and prioritize multiple issues. 
  • A sense of urgency and confidence putting the customer first to resolve incidents.
  • Accustomed to working in stressful environments.
  • Ability to forge strong relationships and coordinate effectively with multiple parties during outages and actively communicate updates to Application Development and Business partners.
  • Detail oriented and organized with strong analytical skills.
  • Team player with strong collaborative qualities and a positive demeanor. 
  • Previous experience supporting financial services applications, preferably in the Treasury, Risk, and or Securities Lending lines of business. 
  • ITRS & AppDynamics.
  • IIS / WebSphere.
  • Net/C#/Java Exposure.
  • Knowledge of RabbitMQ or similar messaging systems.
  • Knowledge of F5 Load Balancer.
